As we bear down on Skylake’s arrival it was somewhat inevitable leaks would occur. The upcoming Skylake micro-architecture from Intel could be one of the biggest leaps in processing power for years, fabricated on the 14nm node and delivering improved efficiency and performance.
The first CPUs are pencilled in for a launch during the second half of this year, but ahead of then some possible specifications have leaked of the two processors leading the charge; namely the Intel Core i7-6700K, and the i5-6600K, both looking extremely promising if these leaked specs ring true.
The chief worry with this leak is just how impressive the pair look, but fingers crossed where there’s smoke, there’s fire.
Both the i5-6600K and the i7-6700K are equipped with some impressive clock speeds. The i5-6600K is 3.5GHz and a boost clock of 3.9Ghz, with four cores and four threads, 6MB cache, DDR4 support and a TDP of 95W. The Core i7-6700K meanwhile apparently comes with a 4GHz core clock and a boost speed of 4.2GHz. This is a quad-core processor with eight threads and, again, a 95W TDP.

If the specs are true then we can expect some decent overclocking headroom from this pair, with the i7-6700K likely clockable to at least 4.5GHz. Previous reports indicated Intel was struggling with high clocks on Skylake though, so take these rumours with a grain of salt.
