Halo Online Beta Gameplay Footage Shows Promise For PC Shooter

Whisper it quietly, but the free-to-play Halo Online actually looks pretty decent. Footage coming out from the Russian close beta suggests it could be the Halo for PC we’ve always been waiting for, offering up a game that, so far, looks extremely comparable to Halo 3, complete with action on the sprawling Valhalla map.  There’s a bit of lag going on, but that seems to be a side-effect of making use of all sorts of rerouting tools to fool the Halo Online servers into thinking you’re playing in Russia. Unfortunately it does look as if you won’t be able to pick weapons up from the floors or your fallen foes, unless you’ve already splashed out on the weapons in question via Halo Online’s microtransaction store.  Running on a modified version of the Halo 3 engine, it looks as if Halo: Online is designed to work on a wide variety of systems, with support built in for 16-player matches. While exact pricing details are yet to be announced, or indeed whether it’s even get an international release at all, it appears as if Halo Online will be a platform from which additional content will be continually added.

recently a band of modders, or pirates depending on your view, have announced plans to set Halo Online free from its Russian shackles, getting to work on creating a global version with microtransaction elements. Microsoft is obviously cracking down pretty heavily on this, but it at least indicates it’s in Microsoft’s and developer Saber Interactive’s best interests to push Halo Online out worldwide. We'll update you as soon as we hear anything regarding a release for the rest of the world, but we're crossing our fingers it's just a matter of time. Would you like to see this get a worldwide release? Is a F2P version preferable to getting your hands on Halo 5: Guardians?
