Intel Skylake Launch Schedule Reveals Desktop CPUs Could Be Arriving In August

Intel has been finalising the launch schedules for the entirety of its upcoming range of processors based on the ‘Skylake’ microarchitecture. Previous estimates had hinted the first desktop processors could arrive late this year, but the latest reports indicate Intel could have Skylake-S ready as soon August this year.

We’re expected to finally get our first look at the Skylake microprocessors during the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco, set to run from 18th-20th August. Intel’s got plenty to demonstrate, with quite a few processors expected towards the tail-end of this year and into the beginning of 2016.
The Intel Developer Forum is going to play host to an in-depth look at how the upcoming Skylake family will work, including the finer points of the microarchitecture and a glimpse at future plans.
According to the information below, the first Skylake processors to hit the market will be Skylake-S desktop enthusiast chips, which are pencilled in for an August-September launch. This pair are the Intel Core i7-6700K and the Core i5-6600K, and with just three months or so to go until these are out, we can expect to see concrete performance results soon.

It's looking as if Skylake is upon us very soon indeed. Broadwell has unfortunately come and gone in a flash, but that's no big deal with the next-generation of central processing units just around the corner. August and September should be extremely busy months, with refreshes across the board for aging Haswell processors, benefiting enthusiast desktop and mobile gamers alike.
