Hellraid Development In Trouble As Techland Head Back To The Drawing Board

First-person hack ‘n’ slasher Hellraid is on the rocks, as developer Techland has scrapped work on the project and sent it back to the drawing board. The Dying Light and Call of Juarez: Gunslinger developer has announced it will no longer be launching this year, and development has been put on hold to focus on other projects.

The projects in question? Well, Techland has said it wants to consolidate its development resources and have a focus on expanding the Dying Light universe, whether that be further content packs or a full-blown sequel.

"We would like to officially announce that our dark fantasy FPP game Hellraid will not be released this year as previously planned, and the development of the game has been put on hold," wrote Techland in a statement issued on its blog. "In the recent months we conducted an internal analysis and came to the conclusion that Hellraid, in its current shape and form, is not meeting our own expectations for this project. Therefore, we decided the best course of action would be to send it back to the drawing board and invent our dark fantasy title anew."

Hellraid was originally announced way back in 2012, and showed some serious promise with what looked to be a first-person Dark Souls, albeit with proper 4-player co-op multiplayer elements included.

Disappointed this could be the last we see of Hellraid? Would you prefer to see this game eventually emerge, or development shifting to focus on Dying Light?
