AMD Radeon R9 380 Spotted In HP Gaming Pre-Build

HP has published a press release for its back-to-school lineup of PCs arriving later this year, with one of the pre-builds containing a hitherto unannounced graphics card - the AMD Radeon R9 380.
AMD has been extremely tight-lipped about its upcoming GPU range, aside from the performance capabilities of the 2.5D high-bandwidth memory (HBM) set to feature in its next flagship model, likely the R9 390X. Up until now the chip manufacturer has yet to even disclose a Radeon R9 380, but it features in the upcoming HP Envy Phoenix Tower, which can come with a GTX 980 or the aforementioned R9 380.
To support the power necessary for a solid gaming experience, especially on a 4K display, customers have the choice of up to NVIDIA GTX 980 or AMD Radeon R9 380 discrete graphics”, reads the product description. Reading between this lines this appears to suggest the two are on a level pegging, but this is unlikely to be the case, the R9 380 isn’t thought to be the highest end of its family.
While no specifications were confirmed this does at least hint at AMD introducing the next-generation graphics cards very soon indeed. This is the first official confirmation we’ve received of the GPUs existing in the wild, and we expect to hear more from AMD at the Computex trade show in Taipei in early June.
HP's back-to-school range is expected to arrive over summer, so we can expect AMD to have its range of graphics cards out by then at the latest.
