Will the next Crysis installment be a board game? That’s up to you

The link between video games and the tabletop variety has always been strong. Plenty of board games have made the transition to digital, and lately we’ve seen video games make the leap to the tabletop, but a board game based on a first-person shooter series? That one is new to us.
Crysis Analogue Edition is just that: a strategy board game based on the first-person shooter series for two to eight players, currently seeking funding on Kickstarter. Familiar elements from the series, like Nanosuit modes, make an appearance, and much of the gameplay is built around the strategic use of cover and ambushes.

The game is being developed by German studio Frame 6, a firm that has more of a history with PC and mobile games than it does with tabletop games, which in this case may make it the perfect fit for such a translation. And not only is Crysis series developer Crytek okay with this project, they’re even helping with it.

“Aside from granting us the Crysis license for this game, the design team of the original Crysis series has assisted us with original visual assets and was part of our QA team for this game,” Frame 6 said on the Kickstarter campaign page. “This collaboration should guarantee a true-to-the-original experience while providing original content for a core board gamer audience.”

Super Early Bird pricing for Crysis Analogue Edition is already gone, but there are still a number of Early Bird slots left. Otherwise, the minimum pledge to receive a copy of the game is €75, or roughly $85. Twice that will get you the game’s Collector’s Edition.

The campaign has already raised nearly a third of its $94,851 goal at the time of this writing, and it still has until June 13 to reach its funding. If you’d like to be on board, head over to the Kickstarter page to back the campaign.
And if you’re interested but still on the fence, take a look at the basic rules of the game
