Microsoft confirms Windows 10 will launch this summer

Microsoft has announced the completed version of its Windows 10 operating system will become available during the summer months of 2015.

During the Windows Hardware Engineering Community conference in China, the company stopped short of revealing a specific Windows 10 release date, but confirmed the OS will be available in 190 countries and 111 languages from day one.

In an official blog post, Microsoft EVP of Operating Systems Terry Myerson wrote: "We continue to make great development progress and shared today that Windows 10 will be available this summer in 190 countries and 111 languages.

"Windows has always been global with more than 1.5 billion users around the world and here in China hundreds of millions of PCs operate Windows today."

The summer release window had been heavily tipped in recent weeks as the company looks to go after the lucrative back-to-school market.

An early summer release to manufacturers will enable the likes of Dell, Lenovo HP and the other PC big guns to bring new models to market in time for the new academic year.

It also means those upgrading using existing desktops, laptops, tablets and smartphones will also be able to make use of Windows 10’s exciting range of new features within the next few months.

Windows 10 will be a free upgrade for the hundreds of millions of Windows users currently rocking Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 for the first year after it is released.

Currently the Technical Preview version software is available as an open beta to Windows Insider members, who’re continually granted access to new features.

A summer launch promises be a huge boost to Microsoft, which is seeking to put the Windows 8/RT debacle behind it and move on to the exciting new era of personal computing.

This will be truly the start of a new era in personal computing!
